Who takes care of the carer ?
Who takes care of the carer ? The carer has an obligation to take care of their patient , loved one , client , child etc.
When your life is dedicated to taking care of others it is of utmost importance that you take time to take care of yourself.
As a nursing student / healthcare assistant / big sister and youth leader I am a huge advocate for self-care.
Everyone, whether they be a carer or not, needs to take care of themselves, BUT carers in particular may neglect their self-care due to being so consumed with taking care of other people.
If you know a care provider, take time to appreciate them today however that may be.
Here are some ways you can support a care giver :
1. Send them a text or TikTok to encourage them , make them feel seen , loved, and appreciated. I cannot express how big the “little” things can be.
2. Take them OUT ! Not just any type of outing but something you know will help them to enjoy themselves and take a breather from their ongoing responsibilities.
3. Be as helpful as possible ! Help them make their breakfast/lunch/dinner, offer them a lift , keep the house clean , etc. the list goes on .
4. Similar to the last point , ASK them how you can practically make life easier for them.
5. Make them a care package ! A caregiver can be so occupied with others' needs being met ; they forget their own needs. Somethings you can include in a care package : Their favorite snacks , multivitamins, a nice pair of socks , body washes , skin care , creams etc .
CARE GIVERS ! Here are some ways you can relax and unwind.
1. Treat yourself , you deserve it ! Buy that bag ! The shoes ! Book that holiday.
2. Set clear boundaries , let your days off be spent how you choose them to be. It is ok to have a chill day and literally just CHILL.
3. One of my personal favorites is getting my hair and fresh pedicure done. I always feel like a brand-new woman after ! Men of course all the above apply to you too !
4. As a Christian I find rest in God's presence . Reading my bible , prayer and worshiping alone or with other believers is so refreshing for my mind , body and soul. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. - Matthew 11:28
